Tbilisi, Georgia

General description

Tbilisi, the capital and largest city of Georgia, is situated in the South Caucasus, along the banks of the Mtkvari River in Eastern Georgia.

Due to its strategic location between Europe and Asia, and its proximity to the historic Silk Road, the city plays a crucial role as a trade hub, connecting neighboring countries. As a result, Tbilisi experiences high traffic volumes, particularly within the Tbilisi Metropolitan Area.

mobility goals

Tbilisi is enhancing its mobility infrastructure by expanding public transportation, including metro, buses and minibuses, while integrating smart technologies like real-time tracking and smart ticketing. The city is also investing in roads, bridges and tunnels to improve connectivity and exploring pedestrianisation projects in the city center to boost quality of life and tourism.

Key goals include improving the efficiency and sustainability of public transport, reducing traffic congestion, promoting cycling, walking and electric vehicles, and enhancing infrastructure for better accessibility and safety. Tbilisi aims to address air pollution, integrate different transport modes seamlessly and enable greater innovation through smart mobility solutions and real-time data analytics to improve system efficiency.
